New Doors for Newcomers
About
New Doors for Newcomers is a student-led organization with the focus of providing new opportunities for all newcomers, including refugees, immigrants, and international students, which will aid in their future development in a foreign land. These opportunities come in the form of networking events, job training, leadership training, day camps, and a mentorship program partnered with the Centre for Newcomers Calgary in which newcomers will be paired with university students to identify academic and personal goals by working together to formulate strategies that will ensure success. The mentorship program is subdivided into two further programs including The Real Me at-Risk Youth Program which works with newcomer youth currently involved in crime-related activities, or at risk of becoming involved in those activities. Program staff helps youth participants to reach their highest future potential, regardless of their past. Also, includes The Real Me Vulnerable Youth Resettlement Program which is designed to support Newcomer youth with relevant, timely, and critical informational resources and orientation as they settle and go to school in Canada.
