Japanese Culture Collective
About
The Japanese Culture Collective (JCC) is a student-run club at the University of Calgary. Our goal is to connect students that share an interest in Japanese culture. As a club, we read books ranging from full Japanese texts and fairytales, as well as have discussions on Japanese culture.
We offer members two groups to fit their learning goals:
(1): Got into studying Japanese recently? Exploring Japanese texts for the first time? Our Intro to Manga group hosts Japanese comics (Manga) to utilize both imagery and text in growing your reading skills.
(2): Interested in Japanese culture more broadly? Our Conversation Nights allow members to learn more about Japanese culture as well as discover some differences between Japanese and Western culture. We tackle any form of culture, and it is only limited to one's imagination.
Picking a group is easy, and all members are free to take part in more than one group if they wish! We share our thoughts with our groups on a weekly basis for the intro reading nights and conversation and culture nights.
Other events include social events (game nights and team bonding nights), calligraphy sessions, tea ceremonies, and other cultural ventures.
In JCC, we hope you will learn something new, meet some friends, and have a great time!
